PREPARATION OF MAPPING AND TERMINATION OF THE STATISTIC WORKING AREA OF SP2020

PREPARATION OF MAPPING AND TERMINATION OF THE STATISTIC WORKING AREA OF SP2020

October 24, 2018 | BPS Activities

Maps are one of the instruments used in conducting surveys or censuses in BPS. Maps are used to determine the location of a sample or population spatially. Maps are also used to disseminate data in geospatial forms, such as thematic maps. So, maps are used starting from the beginning of the survey to the presentation of the data. Maps used by BPS are based on statistical work area maps (Wilkerstat) which consist of provinces, districts / cities, sub-districts, villages / kelurahan and census blocks. Wilkerstat formed in the 2010 Population Census is still in use today. Considering that the limits and content in the territory have undergone a lot of changes, BPS has updated Wilkerstat in two phases, namely the Preparation of Mapping and Updating the SP2020 Statistic Work Area in 2018 as well as the Mapping and Updating of the SP2020 Statistical Working Area.
Updates carried out by BPS are now using geospatial technology. This is also in line with the United Nations recommendations in the geospatial field for the SP2020 which were presented at the Global Forum on Integration of Statistical and Geospatial Information in 2014, one of which was to increase map functionality in presenting data using interactive tools. The preparation activities with this update are expected to produce a basic map for the SP2020 later.
Officers deployed to the field are officers who have been given prior training on how to use the application, both during recording the Wilkerstat boundary point, as well as during processing and digitizing maps. This is expected to be able to maintain the quality of the map produced.
