Abstract

The economy of North Sumatra based on the amount of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GDP) in 2021 at current prices reached Rp. 859.87 trillion and at constant prices in 2010 it reached Rp. 547.65 trillion.
  • North Sumatra's economy in the fourth quarter of 2021 compared to the third quarter of 2021 grew by 0.18 percent (q-to-q). In terms of production, the Government Administration, Defense and Mandatory Social Security Business Fields experienced the highest growth of 4.60 percent. In terms of Expenditures, the Government Consumption Expenditure Component is the component with the highest growth of 1.88 percent.
  • North Sumatra's economy in the fourth quarter of 2021 compared to the fourth quarter of 2020 grew by 3.81 percent (y-on-y). In terms of production, the highest growth was in the Electricity and Gas Procurement Business Field of 9.86 percent. Meanwhile, in terms of expenditure, the highest growth was in the component of Exports of Goods and Services at 13.71 percent.
  • North Sumatra's economy up to quarter IV-2021 grew by 2.61 percent (c-to-c). In terms of production, the highest growth was in the Information and Communication Business Field of 6.51 percent. From the expenditure side, the highest growth occurred in the Export Component of Goods and Services at 15.09 percent.
  • The economic structure on Sumatra Island spatially in 2021 is dominated by several provinces including North Sumatra Province which provides the largest contribution to GRDP on Sumatra Island by 23.37 percent, Riau Province by 22.92 percent; South Sumatra Province by 13.36 percent, and Lampung Province by 10.11 percent. While the lowest contribution was Bengkulu Province at 2.16 percent.
