Economy of North Sumatra Quarter I-2019 Grows 5.30 Percent

Abstract

· The economy of North Sumatra based on the amount of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at current prices based on quarter I-2019 reached Rp 192.03 trillion and on the basis of constant prices in 2010 reached Rp 130.63 trillion.

· North Sumatra's economy in quarter I-2019 for quarter I-2018 grew 5.30 percent (y-on-y), higher than quarter I-2018's achievement of 4.73 percent. In terms of production, the highest growth was achieved by the Information and Communication business field of 8.96 percent. In terms of expenditure, the highest growth was in the PK-LNPRT component which grew by 23.85 percent.

· North Sumatra's economy in quarter I-2019 against the previous quarter fell by 0.42 percent (q-to-q). In terms of production, the decline was caused by contractions that occurred in several business fields. While in terms of expenditure, the decline was caused partly by contraction in all components except the PK-LNPRT Component and Changes in Inventory.

· The economic structure on the island of North Sumatra spatially in quarter I-2019 was dominated by several provinces including the Province of North Sumatra giving the largest contribution to the GRDP in Sumatra at 23.33 percent, followed by Riau Province at 22.42 percent, South Sumatra Province 13.13 percent, and Lampung Province by 10.59 percent. While the lowest contribution was made by Bengkulu Province and the Bangka Belitung Islands Province.
