Abstract

• The North Sumatra Consumer Tendency Index (ITK) in the first quarter of 2019 amounted to 101.05, meaning that the condition of the consumer economy in the first quarter of 2019 was better (optimistic) compared to the fourth quarter of 2018. The improving economic condition of consumers was mainly due to an increase in the inflation effect index towards consumption (index value 111.44).

• Compared to ITK in quarter IV of 2018 which is worth 110.62, it means that the level of consumer optimism in the first quarter of 2019 is lower.

• Compared to provinces in Sumatra, the North Sumatra Quarter I-2019 index value is seventh.

• The value of ITK in North Sumatra in the second quarter of 2019 is estimated at 108.11, meaning that the condition of the consumer economy in the second quarter of 2019 is estimated to be better than the first quarter of 2019. Consumer optimism is driven by a high index of future household income with an index of 121 , 06.
