In July 2021, four CPI cities in North Sumatra recorded inflation,
namely Sibolga at 0.62 percent; Medan by 0.31 percent; Padangsidimpuan
by 0.18 percent and Gunung Sitoli by 0.52 percent. Meanwhile,
Pematangsiantar had a deflation of 0.03 percent. Thus, the combined 5
CPI cities in North Sumatra in July 2021 inflation of 0.29 percent.

In July 2021, Medan inflation was 0.31 percent or there was an increase
in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 104.50 in June 2021 to 104.82 in
July 2021. Inflation occurred due to an increase in prices from six
expenditure groups, namely the food group, beverages, and tobacco by
0.86 percent; clothing and footwear group by 0.09 percent; household
equipment, equipment, and routine maintenance group by 0.52 percent;
health group by 0.03 percent; transportation group by 0.20 percent; and
the information, communication, and financial services group by 0.02
percent. On the other hand, the personal care and other services group
showed a 0.27 percent decline in the index. The other four groups did
not experience changes in the index, namely the housing, water,
electricity, and household fuel groups; recreation, sports, and cultural
groups; education group; and groups for providing food and
beverages/restaurants.

The main commodities contributing to inflation during July 2021 in
Medan include red chilies, cayenne peppers, long beans, anchovies, green
chilies, cucumbers, and air transportation.

Of the 24 CPI cities on the island of Sumatra, 13 cities recorded
inflation. The highest inflation was in Sibolga at 0.62 percent with a
CPI of 106.96 and the lowest was in Bandar Lampung at 0.14 percent with a
CPI of 107.41.
