Abstract

- North Sumatra's poverty rate has increased by 0.39 points, from 8.75 percent in March 2020 to 9.14 percent in September 2020. This poverty rate is equivalent to 1.36 million people in September 2020, or an increase of around 73 thousand people in the last semester.
- The percentage of poor people in September 2020 in urban areas was 9.25 percent, and in rural areas was 9.02 percent. Urban areas experienced an increase of 0.5 points, while rural areas experienced an increase of 0.25 points when compared to March 2020.
- The poverty line in September 2020 was recorded at Rp. 505,236, - / capita / month with the composition of the Food Poverty Line of Rp. 378,617, - (74.94 percent) and the Non-Food Poverty Line of Rp. 126,619, - or approximately (25.06 percent).
- In the period March 2020 - September 2020, the Poverty Depth Index (P1) and the Poverty Severity Index (P2) showed an increase. P1 increased from 1.513 in March 2020 to 1.599 in September 2020, and P2 increased from 0.388 to 0.453. This indicates that the average expenditure of the poor tends to decline and farther away from the poverty line, and the level of expenditure inequality among the poor is getting higher.
