Abstract
• In February 2021, all CPI cities in North Sumatra had deflation, namely Sibolga by 0.68 percent; Pematangsiantar by 0.46 percent; Medan by 0.33 percent; Padangsidimpuan by 0.28 percent; and Gunung Sitoli by 1.55 percent. Thus, the combined 5 CPI cities in North Sumatra in February 2021 deflation of 0.35 percent.
• In February 2021, Medan recorded a deflation of 0.33 percent or there was a decrease in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 104.55 in January 2021 to 104.21 in February 2021. Deflation occurred due to a decrease in prices indicated, namely the food group, drinks and tobacco by 1.10 percent; and the transportation group by 0.19 percent. The expenditure group that experienced an increase in index were the clothing and footwear group by 0.06 percent; equipment, tools, and household routine maintenance group by 0.34 percent; the health group by 0.03 percent; and personal care and other services group by 0.43 percent. Five other groups that did not experience changes in the index, namely the housing, water, electricity, and household fuels group; information, communication and financial services group; recreational, sports, and cultural groups; education group; and food and beverage / restaurant supply groups.
• The main commodities contributing to deflation during February 2021 in Medan include red chilies, eggs, broiler chicken, tuna / ambu-ambu, bird's eye chilies, dencis fish, and mustard greens.
• Of 24 CPI cities on the island of Sumatra, 20 cities recorded deflation. The highest deflation was in Gunung Sitoli at 1.55 percent with a CPI of 107.33 and the lowest in Palembang at 0.08 percent with a CPI of 104.99.
