Abstract

  • In November 2020, all CPI cities in North Sumatra had inflation, namely Sibolga by 0.34 percent; Pematangsiantar by 0.64 percent; Medan by 0.30 percent; Padangsidimpuan by 0.39 percent; and Gunung Sitoli by 0.15 percent. Thus, the combined 5 CPI cities in North Sumatra in November 2020 inflation of 0.33 percent.
  • In November 2020, Medan recorded an inflation of 0.30 percent or an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 103.17 in October 2020 to 103.48 in November 2020. Inflation occurred due to an increase in prices indicated, namely the food, beverage, and tobacco 0.58 percent; the clothing and footwear group by 0.44 percent; equipment, tools, and household routine maintenance group by 0.17 percent; the transportation group of 1.07 percent; and the food and beverage / restaurant supply group by 0.05 percent. The expenditure groups that experienced a decrease in index were the housing, water, electricity and household fuels group by 0.05 percent; the health group by 0.01 percent; and personal care and other services group by 0.17 percent. Three other groups that did not experience changes in index, namely the information, communication and financial services group; recreational, sports, and cultural groups; and education groups.
  • The main commodities contributing to inflation during November 2020 in Medan include chicken meat, air transportation, shallots, cooking oil, red chilies, men's cotton long shirts, and bananas.
  • Of the 24 CPI cities on the island of Sumatra, 22 cities recorded inflation and only 2 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was in Pematangsiantar at 0.64 percent with a CPI of 104.02 and the lowest in Bandar Lampung at 0.09 percent with a CPI of 105.65
