Abstract

The total workforce in August 2020 was 7.35 million people, a decrease of 61 thousand compared to August 2019. In line with the decrease in the number of the workforce, the Labor Force Participation Rate (TPAK) also decreased by 1.70 percentage points.
The open unemployment rate (TPT) in August 2020 was 6.91 percent or 508 thousand people, which means an increase of 1.52 percentage points or an increase of 109 thousand people compared to August 2019.
The working population of 6,842 million people, decreased by 170 thousand people from August 2019. Employment that experienced a percentage increase was the Trade Sector (0.86 percentage points) and Other Services (0.37 percentage points). Meanwhile, other sectors experienced a decline, especially the Education Services Sector (0.46 percentage points), Manufacturing Industry (0.35 percentage points), and Corporate Services (0.33 percentage points).
A total of 4.079 million people (59.62 percent) worked in informal activities, up 4.63 percentage points compared to August 2019. Over the past year (August 2019-August 2020), the percentage of formal workers fell by 4.63 percentage points.
In the past year, the percentage of underemployed workers increased by 2.73 percentage points, and the percentage of part-time workers increased by 3.22 percentage points
There are 1.23 million people affected by Covid-19 or 11.51 percent. Consisting of unemployment due to Covid-19 (107 thousand people), BAK due to Covid-19 (39 thousand people), temporarily unemployed due to Covid-19 (64 thousand people), and working residents who experienced reduced working hours due to Covid-19 ( 1.02 million people).
