Abstract

• In July 2019, all CPI cities in Sumatera Utara were inflation, namely Sibolga at 1.88 percent; Pematangsiantar of 0.29 percent; Medan at 0.95 percent; and Padangsidimpuan by 0.06 percent. Accordingly, the combined 4 CPI cities in Sumatera Utara in July 2019 were inflation of 0.88 percent.
• In July 2019, Medan inflation was 0.95 percent or an index increase of 144.92 in June 2019 to 146.30 in July 2019. Inflation occurred because of an increase in prices as indicated by the increase in the index of most expenditure groups, namely foodstuffs group of 3.29 percent; processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group by 0.09 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group by 0.07 percent; clothing group at 1.23 percent; health group by 0.09 percent; and the education, recreation and sports group by 0.43 percent. Meanwhile, the transportation, communication and financial services group showed a decrease in index, which was 0.24 percent.
• The main commodities contributing to inflation during July 2019 in Medan include red chili, gold jewelery, mobile phone credit rates, chicken meat, mustard greens, dencis, and wages for domestic servants.
• Of the 23 CPI cities in Sumatra, 21 cities recorded inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Sibolga at 1.88 percent with CPI of 148.33 and the lowest in Padangsidimpuan by 0.06 percent with CPI of 136.70.
