- In December 2017, all CPI cities in Sumatera Utara experienced
inflation, namely Sibolga at 0.38 percent; Cultivation of 0.46 percent;
Medan by 0.73 percent; and Padangsidimpuan at 0.87 percent. Thus, North
Sumatra in December 2017 experienced inflation of 0.70 percent.

In December 2017, inflation stood at 0.73 percent or an increase in
index from 136.17 in November 2017 to 137.16 in December 2017. Inflation
was due to an increase in prices as indicated by the rising index of
most expenditure groups, ie foodstuffs by 2.64 percent; housing, water,
electricity, gas and fuel by 0.25 percent; clothing group by 0.24
percent; education, recreation and sports groups by 0.01 percent; and
transportation, communication and financial services group by 0.28
percent. Meanwhile, the group that experienced a decrease in index,
namely the group of finished food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco by
0.26 percent, and the health group by 0.47 percent.

From 23 CPI cities in Sumatera Island all cities experienced inflation.
The highest inflation occurred in Lhokseumawe at 1.69 percent with CPI
of 128.53 and the lowest occurring in Metro by 0.23 percent with CPI of
137.19
